About Northwestern Bank

You don't have to settle for poor service and higher fees at your present bank. Find out what thousands of your friends and neighbors already know. You'll get better hours and superior products & services that benefit you without the high costs associated with BIG BANKS. Most importantly, you'll get competent, personal service from people who understand that you deserve respect for doing business with Northwestern Bank. Northwestern Bank dates back over 86 years to 1915 when a group of farmers and merchants joined together and established the bank in Lockhart, MN. In 1923 A.J. Andersen became the cashier and managed the bank. He quickly earned a reputation as a hard worker and endeared himself to the community. By 1940, A.J. owned controlling interest. With his goal of having his son Arthur Jr. act as president, A. J. elected to move the bank charter from Lockhart to the bigger town of Ulen, a few miles to the southeast. Over the span of 45 years from 1940 to 1985, Arthur Jr. ascended from the position of Vice President, to President and then Chairman of the Board. In 1974 Arthur Jr's son Jim, the third generation, entered the family banking business and assumed the presidency in January of 1981. Jim continues to act as Chairman and C.E.O. today. Jim's daughter Elizabeth Andersen-Kirch, the fourth generation, joined the bank in 1995. Currently she is the President of the Moorhead Office and a member of the Board of Directors. In 1987 Clay County State Bank of Dilworth was acquired, giving us two locations. In June of 2002 we purchased Viking Bank with offices in Moorhead and Hendrum. This acquisition expanded our presence to four Minnesota cities and raised our asset base from $70 million to over $100 million. In addition, the Bank received regulatory approval for a national charter in August of 2002 and we are now known as Northwestern Bank, N.A.
